Hana Al Bakri
President of UNwomen

 Letter from the President

Honorable Delegates,

It is with great excitement and pride that I welcome you to UN Women at ASRIYYAMUN’26. My name is Hana Al-Bakri, and I am honoured to serve as the President of this committee. Your presence here reflects not only academic dedication, but also a genuine commitment to justice, equality, and meaningful global change.

This year’s conference theme, “Shifting Sands,” could not be more relevant to the work of UN Women. Across the world, gender roles, power structures, and social norms are being challenged and redefined. While progress has been made, women and girls continue to face systemic barriers, discrimination, and violence—especially in times of conflict and political instability. UN Women stands at the heart of these shifting realities, where advocacy, accountability, and action must move together.

Throughout the conference, you will deliberate on the question of underrepresentation of women in politics, and the question of the violation of females by RSF forces and the occupation in Sudan. These topics demand courage, sensitivity, and informed diplomacy. They call upon you to examine not only policies and institutions, but also the lived realities of women whose voices are too often silenced. Addressing such issues requires critical thinking, empathy, and a strong commitment to human dignity.

As delegates of UN Women, you are expected to uphold the values of the United Nations while engaging in debate that is respectful, thoughtful, and impactful. This committee is a space where powerful ideas are welcomed, difficult conversations are encouraged, and meaningful solutions are built through collaboration. There are no simple answers—but there is great value in honest dialogue and principled action.

As your President, I am fully committed to creating a supportive and engaging environment where every delegate feels confident to participate, challenge ideas, and grow. My fellow chairs and I are here to guide you, assist you, and ensure that this committee remains structured, fair, and enjoyable throughout the conference.

If you have any questions or would like guidance at any stage before the conference, please do not hesitate to contact me at : hanaalbakri7@gmail.com

I would be more than happy to support you.

Once again, welcome to ASRIYYAMUN’26. In a world of shifting sands, UN Women remains a platform where resilience meets reform, and where dialogue can shape a more equal future. I look forward to an inspiring, empowering, and unforgettable conference with all of you.

Sincerely,
Hana Al-Bakri
President of UN Women
