Lina El-Jawhari
President of Security Council

Letter from the President

Dear delegates of the security council,

Peace and security. The primary obligation for the security council. This is the reason why this prestigious committee is held at the highest stature within the United Nations and thus in Model United Nations as well. With only 15 countries, the 5 permanent members and 10 non-permanent members, the debate in the security council includes collective involvement and is very heated and crucial; seeing that the most urgent, pressing topics are discussed. The action taken is immediate and the decisions are binding. All this means is that this will be challenging.

Every one of you will have the responsibility of voting suitably, for the vote is a very important weapon that must be utilised correctly. This weapon is strongest and most apparent in the P5 countries that hold an unparalleled power, the veto. I am looking forward to seeing how you will deal with this and how the P5 countries will employ this ability. I implore you all to research extensively and to be well prepared, to enjoy the debate and uphold the title of the best, most taxing committee in MUN.

For the second year now, I am proud to say that I am the president of the security council for AsriyyaMUN, Lina El-Jawhari. And with that, I wish you the best of luck and cannot wait to meet you all.

Thank you.
