Letter From the President
My name is Raya Alami, a sophomore at Amman Baccalaureate school, and it is with immense honor that I welcome you to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) at the 13th annual AsriyyaMUN conference. It is truly a privilege to lead this esteemed committee as this year’s ICJ President. At the ICJ, you will undergo an experience unlike any other. Here, you are tasked with the responsibility of holding countries accountable while delving into the intricacies of international law. This committee will challenge you to think critically, speak confidently, and act decisively as you tackle complex cases. In turn, each member will unlock a voice whose potential for impact they may have never realized. Over the course of the three-day conference, the prosecution and defense will present their cases using a list of stipulations, evidence, and 3 witnesses, each aiming to sway the verdict in their favor by proving or disproving a country’s guilt. Judges, you will listen carefully, scrutinize every argument, engage in insightful deliberations, and ensure that justice is served through a fair verdict. Let the ICJ be a platform that fosters critical thinking, diplomacy, and a more profound awareness of the global issues we face today. Together, we will strive to uphold justice through meaningful debate and collaboration. As William E. Gladstone once said, “Justice delayed is justice denied.” Members of the international court of justice, whether this is your first court experience or not, I have faith in each and every one of you to actively participate in arguments, heated debates and decision making. Best of luck to all of you, I am looking forward to seeing what each one of you brings to the table.
